How large should the patio roof be?

Hello everyone,

I need help planning the roof for my patio.

We want to cover our patio. There are two options to do this.

A short version and a longer version that connects to the house wall.

I prefer not to mention the reasons why one or the other option seems better for us, so I don’t influence anyone here.

What do you think makes more sense or looks more balanced? But above all, what is the more logical and durable solution? Thank you very much!

Should the roof covering be transparent or opaque?
If opaque, I would rather choose the shorter option to allow more light inside the house.
Otherwise, it’s probably mainly a question of price, isn’t it?

I read in the green section that it should be airtight (which I would reconsider). Then definitely the shorter version.

Our patio roof is even 4 meters deep (13 feet) and extends almost across the entire width of the house. There really isn’t a “light problem” inside the house, as natural light also comes in through the side windows, just like in your case. For aesthetic reasons, I wouldn’t extend it all the way to the edge of the house. In summer, such a roof helps maintain comfortable temperatures inside the house and on the patio.

I really like your house, @Steffi33
However, I would still not recommend installing opaque canopies in front of windows or patio doors.

Hello, we have a roofed area that is 4 meters (13 feet) deep and 5 meters (16 feet) wide. The terrace faces southwest, slightly more to the west, and sometimes I wish the roofed area were 5 meters (16 feet) deep. The wind direction during rain or snow should be taken into consideration!
