Hello everyone,

During our kitchen planning, the question came up whether we want the cooktop integrated or surface-mounted. What advantages do you see for each option? Is it really much more practical when it is recessed? There is also the silicone seal where dirt can accumulate, right?

We want the Neff cooktop with an integrated downdraft extractor. Does anyone have experience with Neff cooktops?

And what kind of countertop material?

We chose a wood-based countertop with a concrete-look finish (I think it’s laminated, but I’m not sure at the moment).

If it were at least real concrete and not just a concrete look... Conventional composite or laminate countertops are no longer sufficiently sealed around the cutout for the cooktop. Over time, there is a high risk that moisture will penetrate and cause the material to swell.

I would therefore either avoid it or opt for a different material (natural stone is ideal, solid wood could also work), or alternatively demand a very long warranty from the kitchen studio.

I’ve been using Neff cooktops exclusively for the past 20 years, mainly because of their design and the magnetic control knob. Currently, I have a built-in cooktop installed in a granite countertop, also for aesthetic reasons. There are no real advantages or disadvantages, except that the cooktop (including installation) is more expensive.

A few months ago, I installed a Neff cooktop with a raised edge. I am satisfied with it. Just a tip: if you choose a raised model, avoid the one with an additional metal frame, as it creates double dirt traps and reduces the space available for pots.
