Hello

We are looking for suitable cabinets for our basement room.

The basement will be used as a storage and pantry area.

What cabinets would you recommend?

The cabinets do not need doors. They should provide a lot of space, and we will be storing many IKEA boxes.

The cabinets should also be quite affordable.

45 kg (99 lbs) is too little. (But no idea where you saw that 😀)

I think heavy-duty shelving will be the best option in terms of cost-effectiveness.

Heavy-duty shelves are already very affordable and completely sufficient.

60 cm (24 inches) depth is, I believe, a very good depth to store a lot.

Does anyone have a tip on where we can buy such shelves in many widths so that we can choose the perfect size for the room?

45 per shelf is too little? What are you stacking there, gold bars? 😀

I would also have suggested the 50 Ivar right away. But if those are already out, I agree with the heavy-duty shelves. However, I’m personally not a fan of them. I once had some (admittedly a cheaper model) and found them unpleasantly sharp-edged.

I can only agree with that!!!

That is stated in the product information.
45 kg (99 lbs) is enough for a lot of beverage crates.
I would always prefer Ivar or that other wooden-series metal shelving.
I had a heavy-duty shelf myself, now it’s in the garage. The only advantage, which might be important to you, is the lower price.

I would have also directly referred to the 50cm (20 inches) Ivar shelves. But if those are already out, I agree with the heavy-duty shelving. Personally, I’m not a fan of those though. I once had some (admittedly a cheaper model) and found them uncomfortably sharp-edged.
That only applies to the cheap ones from the hardware store. Ours are only sharp-edged at the top of the posts because they were cut there (they were originally much taller), but I can’t reach that part anyway since they almost reach the ceiling.
And 60cm (24 inches) depth is definitely much better than 50cm (20 inches).
Wood is great, but if you’re constantly sliding crates and boxes on it, you have to maintain it accordingly.
45 kg (99 lbs) isn’t much with full beverage crates either.

Yes, money is generally tight when building new homes 😀

The cabinets are intended to be "just" for the basement.

I found the IKEA cabinets quite expensive; we would have ended up around 1000€.

Both the Ivar and Bror cabinets.

Are heavy-duty shelves really sharp-edged?

Value for money is important to us for the basement.

Yes, probably 45 kg (99 lbs) per shelf would be sufficient.

Exactly, it is stated in the product information.

Personally, I would also prefer Ivar. It is quite versatile; you can choose specific features, like adding a cabinet compartment or a few drawers. It can be customized to fit individually because it is made of wood and easy to work with, and so on.
