Stefan2.846 Mar 2023 11:57Hello everyone,
since the weekend, the system’s temperature sensor has been showing 30°C (86°F). As a result, the heat pump does not turn on. The system was commissioned exactly 3 years ago. Alpha Innotec’s service says that the sensor is out of warranty. However, the website states a 5-year warranty. And a sensor is not really a wear part. Has anyone had experience with this?
Additionally, we have a 5-year warranty from the general contractor. Does that apply in a case like this?
I find it strange that you have to pay for a broken sensor after only 3 years…

neo-sciliar6 Mar 2023 15:33THE sensor for temperature ... the AI seems to have about 10 of them. Which one is actually showing 30°C (86°F)? And what type of heat pump do you have?
The sensors themselves are relatively inexpensive. Discussing the warranty here seems pointless. What would be more important is an appropriate fault analysis.

Stefan2.846 Mar 2023 15:36Alpha Innotec heat pump. The outdoor temperature is shown as 30° Celsius (86°F). Clearly, the price is reasonable. However, when including travel and labor time, the total adds up.

What is the average outdoor temperature over 24 hours? The Alpha Innotec only switches to summer mode if the average temperature over several days exceeds a certain threshold. It’s not unusual for an outdoor sensor to show 30°C (86°F) in March, a few sun rays are enough for that.
My Alpha Innotec, which I had before, was controlled by the return temperature. That means it measures the return flow temperature and decides whether it needs to heat or not. You can read these values.

Daniel-Sp6 Mar 2023 17:11Hello,
usually, for AI heat pumps, the return temperature setpoint is determined based on the outside temperature. Additionally, there is a threshold temperature that fully switches the heating operation on or off (based on the outside temperature average). This threshold temperature is typically between 12-16°C (54-61°F). If the heat pump is constantly "reading" 30°C (86°F), it obviously will not switch on. So, replacing the outside temperature sensor is now necessary. And yes, the outside temperature sensor is important for the control system—otherwise, how else would the heat pump calculate the average outside temperature?
It is possible to set a different control mode without outside temperature measurement, but this is generally not recommended. It would only be a temporary solution until the outside temperature sensor is replaced. However, I have never dealt with that before.

Switch from "Outdoor Temperature Dependent" to "Fixed Temperature"
However, you will then need to manually adjust the temperature accordingly.
