I’m curious how often you use your roller shutters and how much added value they provide for you.
At the moment, we hardly ever use ours, and after renovating our house, I can’t see why that would change (especially since the energy-saving aspect will almost disappear).
So, I’m considering leaving out the roller shutters (one less thermal bridge) and instead installing decorative, non-functional shutters.

Sunshine38714 Feb 2023 15:44Every day. On the ground floor, to avoid unwanted views from the street or to block out the sun. And of course, fully closed in the evening. On the upper floor, always when sleeping (I also need the room to be completely dark) or when the sun shines too strongly upstairs. In my opinion, a house without roller shutters is not an option at all.

Benutzer 100114 Feb 2023 16:08I guess it also depends. When I look out the window, I can see at least 20 houses. We live on a hillside, so even a 1.8 meter (6 foot) tall hedge doesn’t provide any privacy inside the house.
schubert7914 Feb 2023 18:36We hardly use it at all. Maybe in summer occasionally for shading. Every 4 weeks I check to see if any birds are nesting again and lower the external blinds.

Our house was built in the mid-1980s, with insulation, but certainly much less than in modern houses.
