ᐅ Additional cost for exterior paint when changing from white to color?

Hello,
Yesterday we had the selection appointment for our prefab house and chose a color (it had to be from the Caparol A1 color chart, for some reason). Today we were told the additional cost for this: more than 4,000€.
That really surprised us because we always thought that whether it’s white or color shouldn’t matter much, so where does the extra cost come from? Of course, that’s a bit naive and maybe simplistic, but we really didn’t expect over 4,000€.
Could you share your experiences? I’d be interested to know how much extra color options cost compared to white for you...
Best regards

This is another example that surprises me, as we apparently are very lucky with the general contractor. Our contract simply states "Exterior facade color selectable."This again suggests that your general contractor is not only a pleasant partner to work with but also only does business with partners who share the same principles. Such vague formulations are only possible when there is agreement on a fundamental belief: that contracts are agreements between business partners, not boundaries for disputes.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

Such vague wording is only possible when there is a shared fundamental belief: that contracts are agreements between business partners and not battle lines for disputes. That’s really true. In rural areas, things work a bit differently. The entire scope of work description is relatively vague—for example, it says “standard sanitary fixtures, standard color white.” That could mean anything or nothing. At first, I was a bit nervous about the build, because before we worked with a fixed-price contractor, and everything with them was very precisely regulated—which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. So far, we are happy with both builders; it’s just completely DIFFERENT. With the fixed-price contractor, every change order was signed by us, every additional cost was settled down to the cent. For example, our shampoo niche in the bathroom was billed at around €500. Keeping all that in mind, I discussed with the new builder that we want shampoo niches in the bathroom. His response was, “If you want it like that, we’ll build it that way.” In his case, the effort is significantly greater because he has to build an additional wall (the wall between the bathroom and utility room would otherwise be too thin to carve something out).
At the same time, in the scope of work there is a lift-and-slide door system listed at over 5 meters, which is only there by mistake (copy-paste error). Now, as a troublemaker, I could insist on that (“But it’s in the contract!”), but that would never occur to us. We are paying an extra charge for our lift-and-slide door because we hadn’t planned or discussed it beforehand. Everyone meets halfway instead of clashing. It’s a very pleasant way to build.

“Choice of color” can also mean that everything costs extra. The pendulum can swing both ways.
Something similar was in our Heinz von Heiden offer back then, where only white was free of charge. I can hardly imagine that in our case. We have items in the contract that come with an additional cost, and it’s clearly stated. Something like “air conditioning for an extra charge.”

So far, we are satisfied with both construction companies; it’s just completely DIFFERENT.I’ll make a note in my calendar to ask you in a year which one you would choose for building the third house 🙂https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/
