Hello,

Yesterday we had the selection appointment for our prefab house and chose a color (it had to be from the Caparol A1 color chart, for some reason). Today we were told the additional cost for this: more than 4,000€.

That really surprised us because we always thought that whether it’s white or color shouldn’t matter much, so where does the extra cost come from? Of course, that’s a bit naive and maybe simplistic, but we really didn’t expect over 4,000€.

Could you share your experiences? I’d be interested to know how much extra color options cost compared to white for you...

Best regards

What color did you choose?
Very dark colors require additional effort because they absorb more heat.
Swede red with a brightness value below 30 would have cost us an extra 15,000 (probably a deterrent offer) for our house.

We have the requirement that the light reflectance value must be greater than 20, and the chosen color is quite light with a value of 71.

Our color is also quite light, I think even a bit lighter (around 77), and our surcharge was 2,600 due to two coats of paint. Also Caparol paint and through a general contractor. The contract was signed at the end of 2021.

Our contract is also from the end of 2021. If I had known all this, I would have included the color directly in the offer and wouldn’t have to be upset now about having to pay a requested price. 2,600€ is significantly less than 4,000€.

We were told that the color would not be painted on; instead, the entire render is supposed to be mixed with this color, which is why it is supposed to be so expensive. I have no knowledge about this and was also surprised that it wouldn’t be painted on...

We have colored paint included as standard. What that specifically means remains to be seen. Plastering will only be done once the weather warms up again, and with our general contractor, all samples are always finalized at the last minute.

However, I already spoke with the plasterer when the interior work was underway, and he also recommends adding powder to the plaster.
