Hello everyone,
We are currently renovating a house from the 1980s and need to replace the old windows, among other things. There will also be two extensions. One of the extensions is made entirely of glass with sliding windows, for which aluminum frames were estimated.
I have a quote for PVC windows from the company Gayko, approximately 60,000 euros for replacing the existing windows (about 12,000 euros) plus windows for the new construction (about 50,000 euros), including installation. I have to admit, the price still feels quite shocking!
The local window fitter recommends this manufacturer as particularly good in terms of security (multi-point locking system with mushroom-head bolts and sturdy profile frame) and surface finishing (no blistering due to extra coating, etc.).
Does anyone have experience with this manufacturer or know them personally?
Thank you very much in advance for your professional opinion.

Does anyone here have personal experience with this manufacturer?
Thank you in advance for your professional opinion. The most important thing I can tell you as a professional (I consider myself among the pros, but never among the "experts") is this: Professionals generally have a more informed opinion – depending on their individual expertise – but their opinions are never more objective than those of average users.
Regarding the installer, keep in mind that they have at least as much influence on the overall quality as the "hardware" product itself – give their statements appropriate weight (but remember the above remark).
If you want colored PVC, I gladly recommend Gealan because of their co-extrusion process. Whether they have licensed it to Gayko or Gayko has a similar proprietary process is unknown to me. I was a manufacturer of aluminum windows and later a dealer (then for windows of all materials). There are only a few real manufacturers, and they often don’t deal directly with end customers, at least not small ones. Licensing and white-label production for dealers is quite common. I don’t personally know Gayko (since no dealer needs all brands), but I suspect they are a real manufacturer (although not a relevant competitor for us).
Mushroom-head locking mechanisms are nothing new and should be standard on ground floors and areas easily accessible by ladder.

One extension consists entirely of glass with sliding windows; aluminum windows were estimated for these. As information about your property, this is far from sufficient to prepare a quotation (which would also be far beyond the scope of a free public consultation). So, only generally: renovation needs are often misjudged by laypeople in both directions. In my experience, I have been accurate over 70% of the time, which makes me skeptical when a homeowner (or buyer) makes a self-diagnosis. Especially regarding where the money urgently needs to be invested, the pool of half-knowledge on the internet often leads down the wrong path.
From a materials engineering perspective, "aluminum only" is undoubtedly the premium solution, but usually only the highest earners can afford this consistently. Therefore, I recommend the average homeowner a mix of "PVC for most elements, aluminum for the stress elements."
The wood/aluminum combination is, by the way, always more expensive with reputable manufacturers than pure aluminum (see the roughly seventy posts I wrote on the terms "wood-aluminum" or "wood/aluminum" in this forum’s search).
Also: many windows do not require full replacement but only new seals and glazing units; and installation without a mess of expanding foam and adhesive strips is a battle with significant dirt and potential damage.
That’s it for now – the next person who asks a window question without providing a detailed description of their property will earn three black marks in their Santa ledger!
(You really can’t just casually ask "Is this manufacturer good or bad?" It doesn’t work like that, and especially not by blindly relying on crystal-ball guesses.) Whether it’s money, learning money, or lost money – at least full replacement (which is often not needed) always calls for a stiff drink when you see the final bill.
