ᐅ Cleaning Porcelain Tiles

Hello, I’m hoping someone can help me. We have porcelain tiles throughout the entire ground floor. And what can I say, cleaning is an absolute disaster—whether it’s cleaning agents, just water, steam cleaners, special porcelain tile cleaners from Melerud, or anything else, it’s just terrible.

I recently thought maybe there was still some cement residue left, so I treated and polished the tiles again. No difference. My son recently crawled over the tiles with a damp cloth in his hand, and even those stains won’t come off. I’m attaching a photo to show how it looks after mopping.

I’m hoping for some advice. Thank you very much.

We had exactly the same issue with our new tiles. I almost tore them out. It turned out by chance, during a visit from a tradesperson, that there was a coating on the tiles that was reacting. After cleaning with a special agent, everything was completely fine. It has stayed that way for almost 10 years now. I had previously tried almost every cleaning method myself.

That sounds promising. What kind of cleaner was it?
I happened to be in a tile specialty store today. The gentleman suggested I try cleaning the tiles with a construction site cleaner to remove any leftover residues and so on. Could it be something like that?

Hello,
We are also struggling with the stains. They never look properly cleaned. So what was the magic solution? Post-construction cleaner?

Could you please describe the problem in more detail? For example, I don’t know what to look out for when it comes to tiles!

There was some kind of coating on the tiles from the factory that reacted with the cleaning water. Over time, this caused more and more stains and streaks to appear. I had tried everything available for purchase. There was nothing from the hardware store I didn’t have. Nothing helped. When the tiler was on site for a different issue, he naturally noticed the problem. He remembered having encountered the same issue on one of his previous jobs years ago. In the end, he obtained a product to clean the tiles. Very strong, wearing a mask, he scrubbed the floor mechanically on his knees. But the coating was removed, and from that moment on, the problem never occurred again.

At first, I had a similar problem with our countertop. There must have been some kind of coating applied at the factory. What helped was a thorough treatment with a so-called "magic eraser." After that, the surface was perfect… no strange marks anymore. Testing it doesn't cost anything.
