Hello
I am slowly starting to order the windows for our old building.
Question: which hardware would you recommend?

The options offered are basic security,
or RC 1 N (WK 1),
or RC 2 N (WK 2)
from Winkhaus.
I probably don’t need burglary protection because the windows will be installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors without balconies, so anyone would have to use a very long ladder.
All the windows are about 1300 x 1400 mm (51 x 55 inches) in size.
Thanks in advance

Then you have already answered your own question. RC1N

I would agree with that as well.

Hello
Thank you, so the RC1N (medium) rating. My thought was whether there is more difference in the locking mechanism, etc. Often, the basic model is just the lowest quality that does not last long.

Well, that’s not the case.
As a rule, the basic security fittings and the RC1N fittings are identical in terms of hardware—often for standardization reasons. For example, all locking pins are usually mushroom-shaped. The difference lies in the number of steel security locking points, which are usually screwed into the steel 1-2 times. Standard locking points, which do not prevent the prying of the locking pins, are often only screwed once into the plastic.
Additional features include things like drill protection for the multipoint lock mechanism (this is a steel plate inserted in front of the lock mechanism), a lockable handle tested to 100 Nm, and a secure attachment of the glass to the sash, e.g., by bonding the pane or screwing the glazing bead. The glass itself remains unchanged compared to the standard version for both RC1N and RC2N.
For RC2 and RC2N, the number of locking points with mushroom pins is higher and/or the distance between them is smaller, and the locking points are screwed into steel.
It is therefore recommended to check:
- if the locking pins are mushroom-shaped?
- how many steel locking points are installed?
- if the steel locking points are screwed into steel?

Basically correct, but for windows on the 2nd and 3rd floors without a balcony – so 6-8m (20-26 feet) high – it can be ignored 😉
