ᐅ Is it advisable to reduce a basement door opening using expanding foam?

Hello everyone,

We currently have the basement being built, a precast concrete basement.

From the raw floor to the start of the door opening for the basement door, it is 13cm, but with the complete floor build-up, it will be 18cm (7 inches).

The door opening is currently 2.20m (7 ft 3 in) high, and a 2.10m (6 ft 11 in) door is planned. If we reduce the bottom of the door opening by 5cm (from 13 to 18cm) (2 inches), it should still fit well with the clearance for installation.

I’ve read online that such reductions of door openings up to 10cm (4 inches) can be addressed using construction foam and cladding.

Would you recommend this as well, or should we hire a bricklayer/mason?

Best regards,
Christian

Hand-drawn layout sketch: outer rectangle, central inner rectangle, and dashed line at the bottom.

I have made a sketch. The front door is already installed, so extending the house like this might not be an option. Or is it still possible to add an extension at the bottom afterwards?

And what is on the viewer’s side of the door? Or what does the door connect? Two basement rooms (with the same finished floor level), or does the door lead outside?

Leads outside.. for the interior doors, the 18cm (7 inches) thick floor construction solves the problem.

Well, if it’s for outdoor use, you can treat it like an exterior door. So, the extension/door frame widening as suggested by @redtatoo in the correct, required dimensions.

The correct technical term for this would be "ground connection profile." It can also be installed afterwards.

Ok – thanks, and what if I already have the front door? So without any widening? ..
