ᐅ Poroton FZ8 blocks for a single-family home

For our single-family house, the Poroton FZ8 brick from Schlagmann will be used, combined with mineral wool insulation to achieve KfW 55 energy efficiency.

I am now uncertain if this is a good choice, since these bricks are designed for commercial buildings and not specifically for single-family houses.

Can you help alleviate my concerns?

I don’t know the specific properties of the brick you’re referring to, but I’m not aware of any multi-family building that has collapsed or had other issues because of the bricks used.

What exactly is your concern? Are you worried that a brick suitable for a four-story building wouldn’t work for your bungalow or two-story house?

It should actually be even better, right (for example, regarding sound insulation)?

For an attempt to calm you down with facts, you would probably be unreachable.

From my 11ant stone mantra, you can learn that you can confidently trust the choice of building materials exactly when the wall assembly and similar elements follow the proven routine of your builder. Only if they are using this brick for the first time do I see reason to be cautious. If you are open to rational arguments, feel free to give us more insight into your planning (and please don’t forget to start the thread with the completed questionnaire). What stage is your project at, anyway?

What confused me is the fact that FZ8 bricks are specified for commercial buildings and T8 for single-family houses.

I lack the knowledge of when a building is considered a commercial building.

Overall, I’m not really worried, everything is fine. I just expressed myself poorly – I’m only missing the knowledge and thought I could ask in this forum because I couldn’t find anything about it on the internet.
