Hello everyone,
perhaps some of you already have practical experience with electric cars and charging stations. We are about to start the wiring for our new double garage. Attached is a sketch:

Next to the distribution board, there will also be a 16A or 32A outlet. Do you think the number of outlets might be too many? And the main question:
1. Where would you generally place wallboxes? Closer to the garage entrance or inside the garage?
2. For a double garage, would you rather go for two wallboxes?

There’s no way two cars can fit in there with all the “stuff” around them. So, it’s better to choose a wallbox, even though two small city cars should fit in here? For example, VW UP.

So, is it better to go with a wallbox, even if it’s just for two small city cars? For example, a VW Up.I think we’re slowly getting to the key questions: which cars, what driving distances, how often do you charge? And will your answers to these stay the same over time? I don’t think fitting a stroller inside a VW Up is very practical. If you have two small cars with low mileage, I don’t see an urgent need for two wallboxes. Of course, you can install them if you have the budget now, but they can definitely be retrofitted later as surface-mounted units.
How many electric cars are you planning to have in the medium term? If it’s just one, then a single charging station (wallbox) is sufficient. The wiring in the garage should only be sized adequately to allow for installing a second one if necessary. It doesn’t make sense to install a charging station now (due to incentives) that won’t be used for 10 years.
With such tight garages, I also always wonder why anyone would put themselves through that. It’s enough if just one of the two cars isn’t parked perfectly, and then it just doesn’t fit anymore. In my new development, there’s someone whose BMW 3 Series barely fits in the garage. Getting in or out on the passenger side is, of course, no longer possible. Groceries have to be unloaded outside, even though there is a door leading to the house in the garage. Why would anyone do that? Better to have a carport with open sides instead.
