Hello,

I am looking for a comprehensive smart home platform that can integrate devices from different manufacturers.

So far, I have come across the following options:

Home Assistant
OpenHAB
ioBroker

Which of these platforms is the best or most widely used?

It is important to me that it runs stably and allows for creating good automations.
Additionally, there should be a smartphone app available that can be used on the go to control the smart home or at least check the status of devices remotely.

Are all of these programs open source and available for free?

Which of these platforms would you recommend, or should we perhaps consider WiButler or Homee, which also support various wireless standards?

But all the evaluations based on lux levels that are possible with KNX—are they really necessary?

It depends on what you consider necessary.

My automated shading system operates based on:

- Indoor/outdoor temperature
- Outdoor light levels (lux)
- Time of day, day of the week
- Presence/absence
- Position of the sun

May I ask @Mycraft in this context if there is anything that cannot be achieved with KNX, or can only be done with extreme effort (high cost)?

For roller shutters, I wouldn’t know what for.
There’s a simple rule: if it’s too warm (you can use a weather report, thermometer, or whatever here) and the sun is shining (also weather report or photovoltaic system, etc.),
then lower the roller shutter, otherwise raise it.

Measuring power consumption at many points, in my view, is very expensive with KNX.

So, can we say that a wireless smart home system would be sufficient for us?

If everything is wireless, there should also be enough access points for an adequate mesh wireless network.

And Free@Home has too many limitations to justify the extra cost?

A fully decentralized KNX system managed entirely on our own is probably not recommended, right?

With a bus system, the electrician can install the bus cable alongside the conventional wiring, and we can handle everything ourselves later (installing the decentralized actuators gradually in different locations).

With Free@Home, the electrician can already integrate the roller shutters and weather station or leave them out.

We need to tell the electrician soon whether to install the bus cables or not.

Hello

I just received the quote from the electrician.

He wants 3,000€ for laying the bus cable in addition to the conventional wiring.

The Free@Home weather station, power supply, and Access Point 2.0 cost an additional 1,500€.

Plus more actuators in the rooms.

Either we install all the Free@Home actuators in the rooms ourselves later on,

or we only install the bus cable for possible future KNX installation,

or we just go with wireless.
