we are currently finalizing our lighting plan and still have some concerns about the future.
We have a room (floor plan and design attached) with a ceiling height of 4m (13 feet), and all windows finish at 3.00m (10 feet) (top edge of window frame).
Basically, we are planning 3 ceiling outlets (marked in red) above the dining table, coffee table, and one centrally located. Additionally, for ambient lighting (yellow), there will be 3 more ceiling outlets for, for example, large pendant lights. Four wall outlets are planned for up/down lights, and along the main walkway, we have 4 recessed spots, the central ones angled towards the partition wall where a photographic artwork will be displayed later. Is this too few? Have we forgotten something?
Unfortunately, we find little inspiration for interior design of living spaces with high ceilings. Do you have any tips on where we might run additional wiring now to allow for possible future lighting expansions? For example, with LED strips around the perimeter? Should we include an extension cable right away? Many fixtures only allow a maximum cable length of 2m (6.5 feet), which would not be sufficient—are there practical tips on what we should consider?
Best regards and many thanks in advance!

Ceiling height of 4 meters (13 feet)? With a room width of 4.30 meters (14 feet)… wow….
I would rather suggest switched outlets for floor lamps before you plan a mix of ceiling lights. Lighting is important, but here too, quality matters more than quantity.
That would really be too much! The two or four picture lights compete with the wall outlets. They are also offset. That stands out negatively. Do the pictures really need extra light from above at 4 meters (13 feet)? I would focus more on emphasizing the room’s entrances with straightforward lighting…
I have to say the room somehow doesn’t appeal to me. Window behind the sofa, living room entrance leading toward the wall. No cozy corner, no TV spot. Can you still see more of the house from here?
In any case, I would avoid lighting “up there.”

Ceiling height of 4 meters (13 feet)? With a room width of 4.3 meters (14 feet)… wow… That wasn’t possible any other way due to the split-level design of the house. Whether we’ll add a dropped ceiling later remains to be seen. For now, we’re leaving it as is.
We’re handling outlets “smartly” with an adapter in front of them, and some of the lamps are already smart as well. Great tip! Many don’t think of that.
Regarding the lighting pictures: the four spotlights illuminate our “walkway,” and we’ve adjusted the middle ones slightly toward the wall. We use that for the artwork.
The up/down spotlights are not meant to compete but to provide standalone lighting in the evening.
The cozy corner is spot on. There will be a fireplace centered on the exterior wall. We’ll decide on the final arrangement then.
Please don’t get me wrong: quality over quantity! Later, I won’t be able to access it anymore.
