ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,

Horst is quite good at selling whiskey, but that's about where it ends. Politically, he is certainly not positioned in the center (which is his right), but he should not be cited as a neutral source. Furthermore, he has no formal education or similar qualifications in the political field that would qualify him as a reliable source; he was something like a physicist or engineer. This is simply a lot of opinion.

I hope I just somehow missed the irony in that sentence?

Exactly the opposite.

Because he was not educated in the political field, he SHOULD have the ability, thanks to his scientific background (engineer), to provide more neutral and realistic contributions than many others.

However, since he is particularly prone to confirmation bias when it fits his personal social viewpoint, he does not do that. The last example I mentioned was a perfect illustration of this.

But he doesn't want that either; he wants to run an opinion channel for promotional purposes—which is his right.

That aside, he is of course right that the one-sided weighting of a single supplier is completely nonsensical.

I would just advise caution about confusing such channels with sources of information. Information is something different from opinions—and in my view, the traditional media already suffer from too little information and too much opinion.

Yes, that’s how it is—the energy transition is supported or accepted by the population. People always complain; that’s just human nature. But it cannot be said to be half-hearted. Of course, more can always be done, but in my opinion, what has been achieved is still significant.

Of course, a lot has been accomplished. I don’t want to speak against that per se. However, I do believe that at certain points, action was not taken early enough or consistently. This becomes evident in areas such as grid expansion and the share of photovoltaic panels on public buildings, for example. It’s particularly noticeable now because of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

You could clearly see in some areas that for the CDU/CSU and SPD, the energy transition simply isn’t part of their political DNA.

Certainly, because these parties are trying to find a balance and tend to be positioned more in the center of society compared to the other major parties.
