ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,
M

Tell me, did I miss something? Some 19.5th legislative term where "the Greens" were the sole ruling party? Or did Habeck decide this all alone while Lindner and Scholz happened to be in the bathroom at the same time, or how am I supposed to understand this?

What do you do with all that gas and electricity?
How many kWh do €120 represent for you? For us, that would be about 4900. 😳

The electricity price is 45 cents per kWh. In recent years, we have always used around 3300 to 3800 kWh. However, my reading of the electricity meter shows a significantly lower consumption in the house. Since moving in in May, we have used 450 kWh. Sure, it will be more in winter, but at the moment we use less than half. In the rental apartment, we had an electric stove, but that alone can't explain it.

As for gas, we have used just under 1900 kWh from April 1st until now. We really have no idea how much that will be during winter.
We do have a fireplace in the living room and a wood stove in the kitchen (haha), and it looks like we have enough wood for this winter.

Oh... and there are three of us 🙂

I really like your post and even gave it a "love." However, I have not accepted or used the comment you quoted for years; in my view, it is a dismissive argument. I believe it is used to pacify citizens and distract from political failures.
Are we complaining because people in Germany will have to live in cold apartments this coming winter? Stop—there are countries where people don’t even have homes (which we also have), much less heating. Is healthy food like vegetables and fruit too expensive? Wait a minute—in other countries, you can’t buy vegetables or fruit at all. Are children going to school without breakfast, and there is no free breakfast provided at school (which undoubtedly affects cognitive abilities as well as concentration)? So what—in other countries, children cannot go to school at all.
In my opinion, the effort should be directed towards improving living conditions for ourselves as well as for people in other countries, and not staying silent about politically caused deteriorations of basic living standards just because, overall, we are better off compared to someone else in the world.
It is bad enough that poverty in Germany is now visible in people’s teeth after various health insurance reforms; we shouldn’t also have to smell it because poorer people can no longer afford to shower or do not want or cannot shower in cold apartments (just relatively cool). This is only my opinion and assessment, subjective. ;-)

Unfortunately, you took the sentence out of context. I even wrote more about it afterwards.
Basically, I agree with much of what you say. However, I also travel a lot and see that even with cooler apartments and cold showers, we would still be among the richest people in the world. That doesn’t mean I approve of or accept the current developments. They scare me.

Yes, apparently you did. This was "accomplished" by Ms. Baerbock as one of her first official acts. Ministers are indeed allowed to make decisions independently within their own departments.

Well, it cannot be denied that preventing the commissioning of NS2 is largely due to the Green Party (-;

And what is wrong with that? Even the CDU supported ending the "private project" after Russia attacked Ukraine.

So, did the foreign minister disregard or violate the contents of the coalition agreement? Could you please explain?
