Hello
we are currently building our new house.
We had the first appointment with the electrician, and for the smart home system, he recommended Free@home.
The electrician does not offer KNX.
What would you recommend? Should we go with Free@home or install a wireless smart home system ourselves later?

I used to call TP-Link products "junk." Nowadays, that generalization no longer holds true. However, TP-Link is definitely not overall better than AVM; in fact, it's usually the other way around. If I were you, I would definitely go with the AVM 6000 series—you’ll likely be quite happy with it. Maybe you can find a high-mounted cabinet to hide the device in. There are also 3D-printed mounts available for this purpose (for example, mounted behind a curtain). If you don’t need PoE, the AVM mesh system works really well, and you won’t require a centrally managed Wi-Fi like with UniFi.
I cannot recommend a TP-Link router. The new AVM 7590AX fits very well with the aforementioned repeaters (which should be configured as LAN bridges, though). Often the best approach is simply to follow what the majority does because it works.

Oh, I had expected TP-Link Omada to be on par with UniFi or almost at UniFi level since the Omada system is also intended for professional use. In a test site, the Omada system was assessed as very similar to UniFi.
Yes, there is probably a taller cabinet where I can connect the access point and supply it with LAN.
Then I wanted to ask something I still don’t understand.
What can a UniFi system do better than an AVM system?
What can you do more or better with UniFi compared to AVM?
Was the only advantage that UniFi can be powered via PoE (Power over Ethernet), making ceiling and high wall mounting possible?

The developer messed things up for us; due to structural reasons, they won’t allow the electrician to prepare ceiling access points. Sorry, but I have never heard such nonsense.
Are you also not allowed to install ceiling-mounted lights because of the structural issues?

We find wall access points visually unappealing and would prefer to have them installed out of sight (even if that reduces performance—I don’t need gigabit Wi-Fi).
Because of the less ideal position, I would want to use good access points with the new Wi-Fi 6 standard to compensate for the poor location. Unfortunately, this is also incorrect. Wi-Fi 6 and high-quality access points cannot compensate for poor placement.
Radio signals work similarly to light. Where light doesn’t reach, Wi-Fi usually doesn’t either.
That’s why lights are installed on the ceiling, not hidden behind the TV.
What does central management mean? What exactly needs to be managed in a single-family home?
Could you maybe list a few examples so I can see if I might need any of them at some point?
@RotorMotor Yes, I know that ignoring the structural analysis is not ideal, but unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do if the developer doesn’t allow it. So I have to live with the alternative.
But for a little surfing, the access point in the cabinet should be enough (I hope).
