We built our house four years ago, but unfortunately, we didn’t consider our living area well enough. Now we’re stuck and don’t know what to do. The wall color and the placement of the sofa (Sofacompany Dane 2.85m x 2.85m (9.35 ft x 9.35 ft)) are giving us headaches. Maybe you have a bright idea for arranging this space.
Who are we? A family of five.

I don’t like that the living area is completely exposed; I would prefer it to be a bit more separated for comfort. Unfortunately, the floor plan can’t be changed anymore.
We have tried so many things over the past three years, and nothing feels right. I can’t even decide on a color anymore.
The area faces west.
If your living area is similar, how have you planned to arrange your couch and TV?

Just like in your left picture. It’s a bit inconvenient for watching TV during the day because of the reflections, but first of all, you’re supposed to spend time in the garden during the day, and secondly, we have external blinds for that.
Do you mean display shelves facing outside or inside? Facing outside, you should have a decent hedge after about five years, right? Otherwise, you can use privacy screens (outside). Facing inside, you could place one or more room-dividing shelves. I had that in my condominium because there was no proper hallway.
My wife doesn’t want that inside the house, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have much space for it either, but who knows, maybe we’ll think differently about it in five years.
In your case, in my opinion, there is still enough space for it, although I don’t know how far the room extends behind the viewer...
Ah, now I’ve seen the floor plan.
You have almost the same dimensions as we do, except that we don’t have an extra nook for the kitchen; it has to be completely accommodated in your plan’s left area of the open space (together with the dining table). So if you place the sofa by the window like in the left picture above, you still have plenty of space for a room divider between the seating area and dining table.

For now... definitely rotate the corner sofa, just like in the plan! This will free up the floor-to-ceiling window, and the TV and plant can stay on the opposite side. Paint the entire room in a subtle color, keeping the ceiling white. Position the shelf vertically. Please get rid of those dried flowers everywhere—they really don't look good.
