Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Choosing is extremely difficult for us because my husband and I come from completely opposite aesthetic worlds.
It’s no coincidence that people say, "Opposites attract." ... 😉

Addendum: I’m starting to get the impression that the lighter tile we chose might actually look more like laminate… I’ll know more once they’re installed. I’ll share photos of the result then. 🙂

Thank you @Pinkiponk
I actually had this tile in front of me in the tile shop as well. I was probably put off by the price. I need to take another look at it.
However, I find it really difficult to imagine how the tile will look in my own home when viewing it in the store and under the lighting conditions there (I don’t think the showroom lighting is very natural).
Our neighbors, who are a bit further along in their build, also have a wood-look tile. In the store, I didn’t like it – too dark, too busy. But it looks great in their house.

In our previous house, we always bought tiles at the home improvement store; they have great deals and nice tiles. You can see from our choice that we didn’t want anything “special,” just wood-look. For the new house, we were tied to the suppliers of the home builder or their subcontractors, and the tiles were partially subsidized.
At the time we selected them, the price was about 42.00 euros per square meter (approximately $40 per square yard) and remained the same until our delivery today or tomorrow. In the showroom, the price has now increased from about 42.00 euros per square meter (approximately $40 per square yard) to about 62.00 euros per square meter (approximately $58 per square yard). :-( But as I said, there are similar options available at home improvement stores.

Do I understand correctly that you chose replacement tiles without ever seeing them in natural daylight? Only online or from a catalog image?

Good luck 😀

I really wanted gray wood-effect tiles.
We were lucky with the price, as I happened to like the cheapest ones best (well, almost—3 € more expensive than the cheapest). We decided on the San Remo Ash.

If you haven’t checked them out yet, I like the Velden (Hornbach / Bodenhaus, maybe other stores too), San Remo (Hornbach), Silentwood (Bodenhaus), and Venice (Bodenhaus).
All of these tiles are, I believe, under 35 € / m² (about $/sq ft depending on exchange rates) (as of two months ago).

I ordered/picked up samples of all of them and laid them out at home. It only helps me somewhat, but at least it made it easier to compare and choose.

Marazzi tiles are very nice, and they have A LOT of different wood-effect tile ranges—almost 30 series in various colors, I think. I didn’t order any Marazzi tiles because I didn’t like the gray tones. However, they have very beautiful brown tiles. From what I understand, their prices are somewhat higher.
