We are remodeling a house. The living, kitchen, and dining area will be on the first floor, with the bedrooms on the ground floor. The ground floor also has a garden with seating areas, a table, a fire pit, and so on. However, since we will be living on the upper floor, we want to have an easy way to go outside for everyday use, like having dinner or sitting outside a bit during the week. This terrace would be 4 x 4.5 meters (13 x 15 feet) in size. We want to put a table on it (about 1.8 meters / 6 feet), a grill, and if possible a small sofa or something similar, nothing large. On weekends or when guests are visiting, we would probably spend more time in the garden (at least in theory), but during the week we would like to be close to the kitchen.
What do you think, is this size sufficient? Will everything fit? Does anyone have a similar terrace and can share how it feels?

Maybe you should switch the floors??? That might make more sense!

WilderSueden27 Jun 2022 23:09A rough estimate:
Table 180x80cm (71x31 inches) with chairs and a bench -> 300x200cm (118x79 inches)
Grill plus space in front 100x150cm (39x59 inches)? It could also be 200x200cm (79x79 inches) if the grill is larger
Sofa 200x200cm (79x79 inches)? With a small table?
Walkways -> ??
It’s best to take a sheet of paper and roughly draw everything to scale, including walkways and the patio door. Where you place your grill also depends on where the smoke will drift.
I also looked through one of my garden books, which suggests an area of 3x4m up to 4x4m (10x13 feet up to 13x13 feet) for a table with chairs.

In my opinion, clearly too small. The circulation paths are missing.
