Hello,
with the existing floor plan, we have currently planned the following kitchen layout.
The total area of the kitchen with the dining corner is 21 sqm (226 sq ft), and the length of the room (wall with the kitchen units) is 440 cm (14 ft 5 inches).
A kitchen island is planned, but purely as a work surface (no stove), possibly with open cabinets underneath;
and optionally with a raised section at the end of the island so it can serve as a kind of bar.
Note: In the rendered image, the colors and designs (wall shelf, island, sink, etc.) are just examples (as rendered by Sweet3D), the main focus is on the arrangement and sequence of cabinets and appliances.
It might also be nice to have a (small) work surface in the window corner (facing southwest, evening sun).
Currently, the dishwasher is planned there, close to the sink, and the open door is hardly an issue (because it is along the wall).
Any ideas, comments, suggestions?
Good luck,
martin

Not much else that can be done.
Okay, yes, that is the question ;-)
But so far, we haven't found a better solution.
> "I would seriously reconsider putting the dishwasher against the wall; the wall tends to look quickly worn or dirty, even if you are careful."
Yes, or no. Parents have theirs like that, and nothing has really gone wrong.
The question is, where else would the dishwasher go?
It can't go in the island area because then you can’t use the island when the door is open (trip hazard).
> "Partial views like this are not good for planning. Partial information is always a hindrance. Only one dining area? Floor-to-ceiling window on the right of the plan... Exit to the terrace? Who does the cooking?"
The first post has a picture that shows the windows, etc. The corner windows in the cooking area start at 140cm (55 inches), at the dining table at 120cm (47 inches), and the door leads to the terrace.
Only one dining area, cooking is done by either the man and/or the woman (no kids).
> "Just a tip. You can store the microwave* above the oven in a separate wall cabinet with a hinged lift-up fitting."
Thanks for the tip, that might be an option.
However, we would rather not give up one of the two planned tall cabinets.
A small microwave might also fit in the cabinet near the terrace door.
> "I would fill the wall by the WC with tall cabinets. Then the kitchen run will be much more relaxed in layout."
That would result in corner cabinets at the top (and bottom), and we think these have a lot of “dead” space because it’s hard to access the corners.
> "The position of the small window is bad. The refrigerator could have been placed in a better spot."
Why is the position bad? Short distances to the work surface and stove.
> "You keep walking and walking... The table could be a bit bigger, but otherwise, nothing better."
Where your table is now is the passage (sliding door) to the living room, and the 40cm (16 inch) cabinets are by the terrace door.
And yes, we want an island … we’ve had a U-shape for 25 years now ...
Here’s a revised plan:
- A small pull-out pantry cabinet in the corner beside the fridge,
- Some space next to the dishwasher (either a 25cm (10 inch) cabinet or a pull-out bin),
- Stove now on the island.
Thanks to everyone!

Well... a square room of that size and a dining table—the only dining table—actually don’t fit well together. A complete floor plan view of your layout including the table size would be useful, as there will be tight spots.
120… 140cm (47… 55 inches)??? From this floor plan it is not clear that the door actually leads to the terrace, as you just mentioned. You cannot see the entire room, so proper placement of the dining table is not possible. Based on the indicated 21sqm (226 sq ft), the right wall is assumed to be about 470cm (185 inches) long. Pathways from the rest of the living area into the kitchen are not visible, etc.

A complete floor plan view of your design including the dining table size would be helpful, as there will be narrow spots.OK, sorry, the first excerpt was a bit small – here is more. The dining table is planned with a size of 90 x 180 cm (35 x 71 inches),
although the dining table might be rotated by 90° contrary to the attached plan drawing.

This way, you build a U-shaped layout into a kitchen of more than 20 sqm (215 sq ft), but in the end, it feels like a kitchen of only about 11 to 12 sqm (120 to 130 sq ft).No, not a U-shape. ... the island can still be moved.
With the “whole” floor plan now, completely different ideas become possible.
Here I go again 😀
It seems to be a planning mistake. Ideally, when creating the floor plan, all rooms should be fully furnished. We have been recommending this here for years.
The first picture looks like a mismatched kitchen from grandma’s times. 🙄
Now you just have to make the best of it.
4 windows, 2 walk-throughs, and then dining/cooking in 20 sqm (215 sq ft)? Wow 🙄
Is that the main dining area in the kitchen? How many people?
Please at least use the quote function.
