Hello community,
We are building a bungalow and have just finished our electrical consultation. We are planning several ceiling spotlights (the ceiling is not concrete). I have two questions:

1. We received an offer for “preparation for spotlights” at 70 euros per spotlight. Is it possible to install only one central ceiling outlet now and connect spotlights later? Or is it better to prepare everything before the ceiling is closed?

2. If the internet connection enters the home automation room (HAR), is a data cabinet as a patch panel necessary? What other options are possible or recommended? We plan to have a LAN port in the living room to connect a router there.

If you only want to install a single LAN port in the living room, then you only need a network outlet in the utility room as well, no patch panel is required.

Overall, I think having just one LAN port is far too little nowadays. It doesn’t have to be overkill, but a basic structured cabling system should definitely be done. I would install a double network outlet in every room (the bathroom is not absolutely necessary). Additionally, depending on the floor plan, I would plan for 2-3 network outlets for Wi-Fi access points. An outdoor access point for the terrace and garden can also be very useful. Furthermore, consider running network cables to the front door and to the garage or carport, or at least prepare conduit paths for a possible future installation of an electric vehicle charging station. For this setup, a patch panel in the utility room is of course necessary, ideally housed together with everything else in a server cabinet or network rack.
