Hello everyone,
In our building application, we specified the garage with a height of 2.68 meters (8 feet 9 inches) for some reason. The garage is properly located at the edge of the property on the area designated as GA in the development plan.
Would it be possible to build the garage 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches) high instead, contrary to the application, or do we have to stick to the approved plans? The construction is taking place in Baden-Württemberg.
The question arises because we are quite certain that we will not actually build a garage there. Instead, a carport is planned, which will be greened. Therefore, we would like to make use of the maximum permitted height.
Best regards

We assume that no one will mind this (or do you think/know otherwise?).A garage somewhat limits the planning since you usually need to reserve parking space in front of it on your property… with a carport, this is not the case.W

Although that sometimes depends again on whether the garage door is electric or not 😉I don’t think the building authority cares about that. Usually, it’s not decisive… in that case, you just position the carport 5 meters (16 feet) back as well. But I wanted to mention it, since you often struggle with every meter or so 😉W

It will be the exact opposite for us. Our approved plans include a parking space with a carport behind it, but we are now going to build a garage instead. A proper one, with bricks and everything. I’m currently researching what is allowed and what isn’t. Are you going to create a separate DIY thread for that? 🙂
I’d be very interested in the planning process, how it works out, the overall costs, and whether you would do it again, etc.
When are you planning to start?
