Hello everyone!

We are building a house this year, and since we’ve always watched TV via cable in our rental apartment, I have no idea about satellite TV or the wiring inside the house.
We want to watch TV using a satellite system in the future, but we also want to have a cable connection installed to use phone and internet services over cable.
So far, so good!

But how should I imagine the wiring inside the house? Assuming the satellite system including wiring costs around 1,000 EUR, I guess I will have to pay extra for the cable wiring as well, right? There must be cables running from the distribution box in the basement to the rooms where I then plug my Wi-Fi router into the multimedia outlet (I think that’s what the cable provider calls that connection)...

Or am I completely wrong here? I hope you can help me out!

Thanks!

For cable TV, no additional cables are needed; simply use the SAT cable that is no longer required. The reverse, however, does not work. We do it this way as well: cables for phone/internet and SAT for television. This way, we can switch later if needed (we also had an additional connection installed by Telekom).

Hi
Both types of reception use coaxial cables that are compatible with each other.
However, the signals must not run on the same cable at the same time.
This is not a problem since the cables are routed to different locations.
For the cable connection for telephone and internet, you need a cable from the house entry point to the desired location for the telephone base station and the router. Modern routers can also function as telephone base stations. Whether this works with cable connections, you will have to check. If not, you will simply have two devices instead of one, which is the case for most setups.

The satellite wiring is more complicated. Usually, a star wiring system is used, meaning that from the dish or the LNB mounted there, a separate cable runs to each TV and each recording device. For example, in my case, the TV has a built-in satellite receiver, so it has its own cable, and the hard drive receiver connected to the TV has two tuners and therefore requires two separate cables. That already makes three cables at this location. The apartment below only has one receiver and thus just one cable, making a total of four cables.
Recently, there is also the possibility to convert the satellite signal to IP, i.e., via Ethernet cable. How this works can be found on Astra’s website, so I don’t have to write a long explanation here. For my new house, I am considering doing exactly that.

Thank you very much in advance for the answers!

We will also have a telecom connection installed since the ground will already be dug up anyway... It sounds like there are no additional costs for satellite TV and cable phone/internet (just regarding the wiring). I'm curious to see what Kabel BW will charge for installing the cable connection!

€398.00 including 10 meters (33 feet) of excavation work, if you sign a 1-year internet contract at the same time. Otherwise, it costs nearly €1000.

These prices apply only if the process runs smoothly... if any issues arise, additional hours will be charged... the price list can be found online.

Do you happen to know how it works with an existing contract? We currently already have an internet and phone contract in our rental apartment!
