Hello dear forum,
It is now time to decide on a color for the rafter tails. The roof will be covered with Tegalit slate gray, and the windows will be finished in RAL 7016.
Tegalit slate gray is similar to 7016 when placed side by side. What color did you choose for the rafter tails? I think a lighter gray would look nice, to create a clear contrast with RAL 7016—but I do need to give the carpenter a specific color shade.
I found an example online—can anyone tell me which gray is used for the rafters here?

borderpuschl8 Apr 2022 08:26That could also be RAL 7001 Silver Grey. But as mentioned before, it's very difficult to determine from a photo.
7040 is not the one; that would be lighter. But a phone photo of a computer monitor... you really can't tell for sure. A color fan deck was one of the first purchases and has been more than worth it.
But I would paint it white anyway. Life is sometimes gray enough as it is.

Also, this is one of those threads where, theoretically, every contributor is correct.
For me, it is
RAL 000 65 00
Mortar grey
🙂

I’ve just ordered a RAL color chart myself – let’s see what comes of it. Are there any tips on how to project a small sample area from the color chart onto a larger surface to make the decision easier? Or in the end, is it just a “shot in the dark” choice? 🙂
