ᐅ Kitchen appliances you wouldn’t want to live without?

Hello everyone,

Like many others, I am building a new house and sooner or later I will need to plan the kitchen as well.
In my current rental apartment, I have a standard fridge-freezer combination stacked vertically (80cm (31.5 inches) wide), a ceramic cooktop, and a combined oven with fan.
I also use countertop appliances like an electric kettle, sous-vide stick, microwave, vacuum sealer, and a food processor (Bosch).

I cook regularly and enjoy trying new recipes but haven’t really looked into new appliances yet.
I should also mention that I am planning an outdoor kitchen with a grill station and deep fryer, so while indoor grilling will still be an option, it can be done outside as well. The frying will definitely be outside due to the smell.

But what would you say is so great that you absolutely need to have it?

Cheers

Then try the Monsieur, it’s not as painful if it ends up not being used.

hm... I actually haven’t looked into the Monsieur much yet... I guess I should probably do that, good idea 😀

Set the times, set the temperature, and if I remember correctly, after adding each ingredient you have to confirm and make further settings.

Maybe it was the advisor, but I felt like the device slowed me down rather than speeding things up. That’s why we decided against it.

This is due to the limited Guided Cooking feature, which was introduced with the TM5 and requires a paid subscription (€48/year).

In my opinion, this feature is useless. With some experience, you know which settings you need for what, and doing it manually is much faster.

I tried this feature once or twice during the first free year and found it really frustrating. If someone had demonstrated it to me like that, I would never have bought a Thermomix.

... As a device we have never had before or seen in anyone else’s home — Quooker. Hoping it will solve the luxury problem of boiling water 🙂 Let’s see what I can report after some time.
The Quooker is pretty “cool,” my brother has had one for about half a year and uses it intensively for coffee (French press), tea, and sparkling water (no more carrying heavy bottles).

BUT: it takes up a lot of space, costs about 2,500 USD in the configuration he has, and the original CO2 cartridges are ridiculously expensive. There are supposed to be adapters, but since it’s not mine, I haven’t looked into it further… still, the Quooker is quite high on my list of next luxury or nice-to-have purchases.

I got up at 7:00 a.m. on Monday (my first day off), with greasy hair under a hat; luckily masks are still mandatory, so no one sees the unvarnished truth 😉 and off to Lidl — I have one now too. I already had the previous model as a helper, my Monsi, a Thermomix for the poor 😀

You can buy my old Monsi as an entry-level model; it’s still a bit smaller than the new one or the Thermomix 🙂
... I ordered it online at 12:10 a.m. ;-) didn’t want to get into a battle at the bargain bin :p

This time I also wanted one of the cookbooks, which weren’t available online… and that early there was no rush either :p

Yesterday there were still Monsieur bread makers available in the two Lidl stores I visited. Two, because the first one didn’t have any more sliding boards for the Monsieur, but the second one did. Sliding works perfectly with it; finally, it no longer stays fixed in the middle of the countertop because it’s too heavy to move. However, I still need to try whether it remains stable while kneading dough...
