ᐅ Kitchen appliances you wouldn’t want to live without?

Hello everyone,

Like many others, I am building a new house and sooner or later I will need to plan the kitchen as well.
In my current rental apartment, I have a standard fridge-freezer combination stacked vertically (80cm (31.5 inches) wide), a ceramic cooktop, and a combined oven with fan.
I also use countertop appliances like an electric kettle, sous-vide stick, microwave, vacuum sealer, and a food processor (Bosch).

I cook regularly and enjoy trying new recipes but haven’t really looked into new appliances yet.
I should also mention that I am planning an outdoor kitchen with a grill station and deep fryer, so while indoor grilling will still be an option, it can be done outside as well. The frying will definitely be outside due to the smell.

But what would you say is so great that you absolutely need to have it?

Cheers

Oh yes – exactly that.
Oh. Alright. My bad... 😎

So, you can manage a full menu, sure. But doing it all at the same time and effortlessly really only works if you have three Thermomix bowls and the TM Friend; otherwise, you’re constantly washing bowls (and that’s so frustrating with a standard kitchen faucet/sink...). And with those bowls and the Friend, you’re spending the price of a small car...

Well, I attended a demonstration (which probably varies from consultant to consultant) and I actually found the outcome rather discouraging.
In addition, there was this aggressive promotion suggesting that everything works completely on its own and is much easier.
The consultant managed to convince me that I see no benefit in the TM for myself.

The problem is, the demonstrations are precisely planned and identical. They even use standardized menus to ensure everything works smoothly.

But they do make a good profit from it (like with Tupperware, etc.), and in the end, the Thermomix was given away for free. 😉

As I said, my interest was permanently removed.

A solution for problems that nobody used to have.
But whatever. If people end up eating less processed food, this thing has a reason to exist.

I had to smile when the neighbor was expecting family over and ran through the goulash recipe in the TM five times for the shared meal. Every dollar spent is well worth it ;-)

It is basically not intended for cooking full meals, but rather as an assistant device. Perfect for that! In Thermomix demonstrations—where such a device is usually promoted—a complete menu is always prepared. However, I have not seen this in real-life use (cooking, steaming vegetables and fish simultaneously).

I don’t do that in practice either. As an “assistant” (a very good term for it), I still find it only replaceable by multiple separate devices that are either more expensive or similarly priced. It has to work a lot here, so it is worth its high price. The model 5 has been working hard and without complaints for 6 years.
