Hello,
today we looked at a sofa in a furniture store (picture attached). It was labeled "Mira S Sonder." We were told it is from a German quality manufacturer, but they did not want to reveal the brand name.
For further research on the quality, we would now like to find out who the manufacturer is. Does anyone have any idea how we could find this out or maybe even know it already?
Regards,
Ole

The photo shows the Golden M, which is a quality mark. Ours, bought 4 years ago, also has it, but the saleswoman didn’t or couldn’t tell us the manufacturer at the time.
Regarding durability: our last set from Himolla lasted over 20 years. The fabric was replaced once, and the upholsterer was very impressed by the still well-preserved “underlying structure.” And that with 3 children and many visiting kids who often climbed all over it.

The material was replaced once,Is that even worth it nowadays? People usually do that only with antiques. No, it’s not really worth it. Reupholstering cost about the same as a new set. But I searched for years for a replacement and simply couldn't find anything nice, and I was reluctant to throw away something that was actually good. Besides, I’ve always slept wonderfully on these sofas in the evening. So there was also some sentiment involved. 🙂

That’s unrealistic. A typical lifespan is more like 5 years. Of course, it depends. For retirees who sit on it all day, it’s different than for people who work full-time. Am I supposed to buy a new upholstered sofa set worth 5,000 EUR every 5 years? Sorry, but I find that completely unrealistic. Our current sofa is now 15 years old, of course it’s a bit sagged here and there, but the fabric still has no tears or anything like that. And we are talking about a corner sofa in the price range of 1,500 EUR. However, this discussion ultimately strays from the original question about the sofa manufacturer.

Yes, it raises the question of what can still be considered useful service life. A worn-out sofa — you might as well put a board on it or set up a beer garden bench.

But in the end, the discussion also strays from the original question about the sofa’s manufacturer. I don’t think so. It’s really about quality.

If you buy a high-quality upholstered piece of furniture, it will last many years. Reupholstering is almost always worthwhile. Of course, you cannot look inside such a piece, and the overall quality has generally declined in recent years.
However, brands like Koinor or Rolf Benz are good furniture manufacturers. It does not even have to be a branded manufacturer. There are still good upholstery workshops in Germany, but they come at a price.
What should you pay attention to? The load-bearing frame parts should be made of beech wood. The fabric or leather should be high quality, though this is not obvious to the layperson. Latex foam and a spring core should be present.
I have even picked up upholstered furniture from bulk waste and refurbished it because some people threw away their good designer sofa and then bought a cheap sofa from Ikea.
You are always surprised what some people throw away.
