Hello everyone,
we are planning a facade for our single-family home with a plaster finish and recessed areas in brick (look). Normally, a brick facade is built as a second layer in front of the regular masonry. We are wondering how this would work with a mixed facade like this. The bricks would then protrude quite far from the plaster. Is this usually solved by using brick slips? I just can’t quite picture that...
Maybe one of you can help me.

nordanney28 Dec 2013 16:50We will have the entire ground floor clad with facing bricks, while the upper floor will be insulated with an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). In this case, the facing bricks actually project significantly further out, so a proper separation between the ETICS and the brick cladding is necessary.
A few hundred meters away, a multi-family house is being constructed that is having brick slips attached directly to the ETICS. I don’t see any visual difference between the brick slips and a real brick facade.

Hello and thanks for the reply. However, we want to cover the surfaces continuously from the ground floor to the upper floor with either brick cladding or plaster. In that case, it would probably only be possible with these thin bricks, right? I just hope it looks tidy and definitely not cheap... We don’t want full brick cladding, as that wouldn’t suit our house. It should be white plaster with anthracite-colored brick cladding and stainless steel details...

As I said, for the multi-family house I don’t see a difference compared to “real” facing bricks.
