Hello everyone.
I need some advice.
We have renovated an old house.
We removed the entire upper floor and rebuilt it using a timber frame construction. Insulation wool was installed between the beams.
For the exterior, I wanted to have the insulation and plastering done by a professional company.
They wanted me to cover the outside of the timber frame with OSB boards first.
Now, they were supposed to insulate and plaster, but the person responsible from the company said he doesn’t understand why the OSB is there. He said he can’t attach wood fiber boards onto it.
We have now obtained a second opinion, and they said we should remove the OSB boards. The window sills and shutters are already installed.
I’m not sure if I can remove the boards, as they were nailed in.
So my question is:
Can I leave the OSB boards in place, and is it possible to apply insulation on top of them so that plastering can be done?

Yes, sorry. You should read more carefully if you want to add your opinion. Please disregard all the nonsense I wrote here 🙄

I don’t get it. The insulation boards are supposed to go on the outside, and then the breathable render goes on top. That’s the usual method, isn’t it? I’m not a timber construction expert, but that’s how I understand it.

Yes, they say you can’t put insulation boards directly on the OSB panels.

Yes, it was more directed at @i_b_n_a_n, but he has already clarified his mistake.
I have no idea what your company expects now.
Just search for "wall construction timber frame" on Google; you will find hundreds of diagrams where it is done that way.
What do they expect instead of the OSB? Or what is the reason they say this is not possible?

Just google "wall structure timber frame construction" and you’ll find hundreds of diagrams showing it like that.
What are they expecting instead of the OSB? Or what is the reason they say it won’t work?

They said nothing can be fastened to that. They want wood fiberboards. But can I install two layers of 8cm (3 inch) wood fiberboards overlapping on top of the OSB?

What kind of insulation do you plan to use? Of course, that is possible. However, your suggestion also works.

The original plan was to use 16cm wood fiber boards (6 inches). The external window sills and the roller shutter boxes have already been installed to fit that thickness.
