ᐅ Concrete staircase in a new build, looking for design ideas

For our single-family home, we are planning a concrete staircase. Covering it with wood is estimated to cost around 5300 euros, excluding the concrete staircase itself.

That is really too expensive for us. Do you have any ideas on how to design or treat the concrete staircase differently to save costs? Tiles are not an option; we simply don’t like them. Has anyone here just painted their concrete staircase? I would appreciate any suggestions, preferably with photos.

I would like that. But is it more cost-effective than the 5300 euros for wood finishing by the carpenter?

I don’t have the quote for the stairs on hand right now, as it was handled digitally through the architect.
But what are you expecting? A nice finish at hardware store prices? Then you’ll have to do it yourself…
We could have also done the stairs with the parquet shown in the picture. That would have been more expensive. And, in my opinion, not quite as nice.
Painting? No idea. My amateur gut feeling says it would wear off.

Thank you for the reply. The question was whether anyone has ideas on how we can save some money while still achieving an attractive result. Given the construction costs, some compromises are probably necessary.

We like the look of the exposed concrete; of course, the raw concrete still needs to be treated. I will continue to research.

I am a bit confused! If you like the concrete look, then why do you want to paint the staircase or cover it with wood?

If you prefer wooden treads, then why not forget the concrete staircase altogether? There are many options available, and some are probably cheaper than a concrete staircase clad in wood.

I don’t think you can use the concrete staircase in the living area without any treatment, so it would at least need to be painted, even if just with a clear coat.
Yes, we do like the concrete look overall, but from the beginning, the plan was to cover the stairs with wood that matches the laminate flooring on the ground floor and upper floor. It’s just that the quoted price makes us hesitate a bit, and we were hoping to get some tips for alternatives.
