ᐅ Is an additional cost for high-quality lighting fixtures necessary?

I am currently working on the lighting design. We had it professionally done by a local supplier. What surprised me were the sometimes crazy prices. There wasn’t a single hanging lamp (dining area strip light) under €800 (about $860), with most closer to €2000 (about $2150). Ceiling lights and spotlights were also priced at about four times the cost I found online. I’m wondering if the price premium for lighting is justified. Especially considering the usage over the next 10 to 30 years, I’m willing to spend more on certain items, but only if the quality matches the price. Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you!

Technology evolves, your taste may change, different things become current (although you don’t have to follow every trend), you might change your interior design, and the lamps no longer fit...

If you want to buy more in 20 years, you will have to spend 400€.That would be nice. We even have trouble replacing or finding spare parts for high-end designer lights that are 10 years old.W

So what does a homeowner do if they can't afford professional planning?
Do they just have the electrician install some basic ceiling lights, a few spots, and that’s it? They plan it themselves. If you already have an apartment or house, you roughly know what you want. Direct lighting, indirect lighting, etc. With that, you can at least plan the lighting locations to fit the interior. If you lack ideas, search online.
Then check out stores, online shops, or friends to see what options are available, what you like, and what fits your interior. You can buy the actual light fixtures after furnishing the space if you’re unsure. They can also usually be returned if you don’t like them after all.
I would definitely avoid spotlights if you’re unsure. Compared to a lamp, they are harder to change later on.
