Hello everyone,

We have been living in our house for a few months now. However, the wardrobe area is still a makeshift puzzle. I would really like something custom here. We have plenty of space (approximately 2 meters (6.5 feet) wide and about 4.5 meters (15 feet) long), so many options are possible.

I would love to hear from you what you consider essential for a successful wardrobe area and what might have been a disappointment. Two adults and two toddlers.
Pictures and ideas, even somewhat unconventional ones, are very welcome 🙂

Thank you very much

Well, you should at least know the size and location of the openings (such as windows and doors).

Closed cabinets. We have two Pax wardrobes, one for shoes and one for jackets, (motorcycle) pants, backpacks, and bags. Two motorcycle storage units for helmets, where damp motorcycle gear or damp jackets can be hung, but only until they dry. And two shelves for wet shoes. The same rule applies: they go into the wardrobe as soon as they are dry.
Nothing special, but it always looks neat.

You asked about something "custom" or "unusual."

Here is an example I can offer (just finished today as shown).

Behind the panels are 4x4 aluminum heavy-duty T-slot profiles (Item) to which the panels are attached. Each panel is fixed with a screw and flange in between the profiles. I had the panels cut to size at the hardware store, as well as the aluminum U-profiles that are attached to every edge.
The wood is untreated MDF; I’m still undecided about the color or whether to paint them at all 😳

The oak-veneered cabinets below on casters are still a temporary solution from Ikea until I find a nicer one (189.5cm (75 inches) wide).

Each panel can be quickly removed independently from the others (just 4 screws), since there is a 4cm (1.5 inches) gap behind them serving as an installation space for the TV wall mounted behind. The LED strips for the bookshelves and TV are still missing. In the second photo (other hallway side), you can see a stylish green ready-made wardrobe by Kettnaker with push-to-open doors and drawers.

Not enough storage space for a family, but there is some room between the panels to attach wall cabinets, hooks, or shelves almost anywhere you like.

Modular, any size possible, stable. Affordable (depending on materials and storage options).

The rug in the entrance area is a good dirt trap. It is made of polypropylene and is regularly vacuumed with water because there is still a lot of dirt outside that constantly comes inside 🙁

Entrance area with wooden shoe rack, bench, round seat cushion, beige wall panels, and gray door.

Living room: TV in wall niche, bookshelf above; wardrobe on the left with jackets.

We have a 1.75-meter (5 ft 9 in) Pax wardrobe with 2 hanging rods on the left and 6 drawers on the right. It has mirrored doors.
At the moment, it works well for the three of us. When the child grows too tall for the lower rod, we’ll have to reconsider. I will probably move most of my jackets out to make space for theirs.
Currently, only clothes that are being worn are hanging inside; the rest are stored in another wardrobe (for example, winter jackets in summer).
For four people, I would add another unit.
And for four, I would also invest in a good (although unfortunately expensive) shoe cabinet.

Then show it on a plan or photo – that way, people can better visualize the possibilities.
