Hello everyone,
we are about to start building our new house and have chosen a local construction company. Today, by chance, we visited a shell construction site by this company (in a larger new development area). In our rather inexperienced eyes, the workmanship there did not seem as neat as in another shell construction site we also saw in the same development.
Is it acceptable for a wall, for example, to be built without staggered bricks/blocks? Is what we saw still within normal standards? We are just a bit unsure.
Thank you for your expert opinion and best regards, Christine

We would then prepare accordingly. It could also be that you conclude: “Everything’s fine, you just don’t know what you’re talking about ;-)”
Either way, we live only 5 minutes away from our plot and will definitely visit the construction site now and then.
Dear Christine,
Don’t worry about a few mistakes with the bricks. They will be plastered over, will still hold, and won’t be visible. The kitchen wall seems to have been added later. Perhaps the client requested this change after the fact and had it constructed?
And if the bricklayer does something like this now, it doesn’t mean it has to be the same for you. It is and remains a shell construction 😉

Then we would prepare accordingly.Hello ChrisRoth
When I was building my shell, I hired a mason with back problems to be on site for a few hours each day. A few dollars per hour were good for the disabled worker. He made coffee, got drinks, and helped out occasionally. If something wasn’t quite right, he would let me know by phone. Then I could step in. It helped both the early retiree and me. And I didn’t have any botched work.

That’s exactly the question – is it shoddy workmanship? ;-)Counter question: would it sound too arrogant if I said, "where I don’t see shoddy work, there is none"? 🙂https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/
