Hello,

We are now working on the planning of our kitchen backsplash.

We are choosing a granite slab with an approximately 2cm (0.8 inch) high splash guard.

Above the splash guard, the wall will be finished with a Q2 level skim coat, and we want to install a decorative kitchen backsplash there to protect the wall from stains.

It is important that the backsplash is easy to maintain and can be wiped clean of grease splashes, for example.

Which material would you recommend for this backsplash?

We were considering a self-adhesive film with a design.

We had some tinted glass cut by our guys. That would meet your requirement. You could also apply the design to the wall and place clear glass in front of it.

The only issue with glass is that we need to make cutouts for multiple power outlets.

We had it done, it was no problem.

So you would definitely recommend glass to us? Then the openings need to be measured precisely, as no further adjustments will be possible.

Yes, glass measured and cut precisely is a good option. Depending on the type of sockets you use, you have some tolerance due to the cover and can make the cutout a few millimeters (inches) larger.

We also considered marble plaster but dismissed it due to the cost (you don’t want to spoil the kids too much; everyone’s own kitchen is already a lot...). It hardens like stone, can be applied very smoothly, and can be beautifully pigmented.
