ᐅ Rooms cold on the floor – is insulating the basement ceiling a good idea?

Our living room (ground floor) feels extremely cold underfoot. Even after heating for hours (standard radiator), your feet still feel cold—the floor temperature measured with an infrared thermometer is between 17 and 18°C (63 and 64°F).
The basement room below has a temperature of about 13°C (55°F), and the basement ceiling is bare concrete.
My question is: Would insulating the basement ceiling help? If so, what materials would you recommend?

You should look it up yourself. You don’t need XPS for the ceiling; you could just use EPS instead. However, with both materials, you would need much thicker layers to achieve the same insulation value. We had a reason for recommending PUR. Bausep could be another source...

What do you think about XPS rigid foam boards? You can find those at hardware stores.

Sure, that works. The same applies to any other expanded polystyrene products.

But 022-grade PUR/PIR with aluminum facing = U-value 0.21 ==> to achieve the same insulation performance, you would need, for example, 16cm EPS (XPS) 035.

If you have a fixed ceiling height, you can of course use the cheapest material and simply apply it thicker. However, in my example, your ceiling would end up less than 2m (6 ft 7 in) high.

Never call me "Bausep" again, got it!
In fact, my other stock still hasn’t been picked up, but now it’s promised for tomorrow; otherwise, it will be auctioned off. Unreliability everywhere you look. That’s why I appreciate our straightforward and reliable contact. Cheers to the building forum.

Hehe, no, you are the charming casino owner!

I got my EPS from Bausep. They had it in stock. Dämmkontor would also be another contact point. I got my perlite from there; currently, they list a 15-30 working days delivery time for 40mm (1.6 inches) PUR insulation boards. At Bausep, the corresponding board is called Puren and has a delivery time of 4-6 weeks.

Of course, I can google it and order it somewhere. I just hoped there would be a way without about 60€ (about $65) shipping costs.

Oh dear... quite a high target... I have usually found what I needed on classified ads or similar (from dealers), especially when my contractor said that THIS is currently not available in Germany. Either you pay shipping costs or you pay more...
