Hello everyone,
During the construction phase, I installed 14 Cat7 network cables (two in each corner of the building, plus two hidden in the roof soffit).

I would like to install 14 network cameras powered via PoE. I am looking for suitable software for this purpose.
A small Mini ITX PC is already installed behind the TV in the kitchen. (When the wall was being built, I created a lintel and reserved a 30cm x 30cm (12in x 12in) opening, finished with a plastered Wedi board.)

Question:
Does anyone have experience with suitable surveillance software that they can recommend?
The cameras should record footage and, if possible, send push notifications to a phone at certain times.

Thanks in advance.

Well, most camera providers also offer an app that allows you to manage individual cameras.

A professional solution would be, for example, a Synology NAS (make sure to get the Plus version). Synology provides software to manage the cameras and store the footage on the server. The downside is that the first two cameras are free, but you need to purchase licenses for additional ones. The advantage of using the NAS is that you also have the server ready for home automation and all the other things you can do with it.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. Unfortunately, I haven’t had any time at all to get familiar with the subject. Plumbing, electrical, bathroom, and kitchen completion have been the priority for the past three months.

When recordings are stored by an external party, I feel very uneasy about it. I also find it quite unsettling to imagine parents discovering that nude photos of their children have suddenly appeared on certain websites.

Admittedly, I believe the likelihood of this happening is very low, but I don’t want to rule it out entirely.

What is certainly possible—and possibly done—is creating a profile of users, such as when someone leaves the house, when they return, or when the mail carrier rings the doorbell twice.

In this case, a standalone solution was chosen. Although the recording device can be accessed via smartphone, this has never been done because the device is not connected to the internet.

This simply means that no one from outside has access to the recordings.

Such data should ideally not be handed over to any external party.

But as I said, this is a very personal opinion.

14 cameras is not something a mini PC in the kitchen or a consumer NAS like Synology could handle. That would be in the four-figure range.

Hmm, it certainly depends on the software and resolution. But 16GB RAM, M.2 SSD, and an i3 processor are already included.

Thanks first of all for all the suggestions.
