Hello,
by now there are quite a few different household appliances for cleaning floors, such as robotic mops, electric wet mops, and steam cleaners. Do you use any of these, or do you simply use a bucket with a mop?
Best regards,
Sabine

Anyone who criticizes these little machines probably still washes laundry by hand and uses T9… Haha, should I take that as prejudice, ignorance of the obvious, or as an insult? 🙂

Especially if you don’t have small children (then there’s a lot lying around), a robot vacuum is the best purchase… But not everyone here has that. Even without kids, cleaning still happens. By the way, I also know families with children who don’t have “something like that.” Still, even without a T9, they stream digitally very well.
I also know the first person in our neighborhood who, as a single, bought one of these early and swears by it. She also has glossy vinyl flooring, which always looks dusty and dirty. I would be happy too if it cleaned while I’m away.

I still don’t quite understand why something like this doesn’t exist.
I wouldn’t mind if it was taller (it would probably require much more space than a robot vacuum), so that it no longer fits under the bed. But the first criticism is exactly that the device is built too tall and therefore can’t clean everywhere. 😉

A robot vacuum is neither devil nor savior – it simply suits some people and not others. Judging people based on that is far too trivial.
We have a Roomba and consider it completely unnecessary. We even had two and gave one away.
1. Our old dog is now – although rarely – somewhat incontinent. I don’t want the robot spreading that around the house.
2. When I’m home, it’s too loud for me. Not because it’s louder than another vacuum cleaner, but because I want to focus on something else and find it distracting. With a vacuum cleaner, I finish faster and can return to my tasks sooner.
3. The device just looks ugly sitting somewhere.
4. Except for central vacuum systems, every device has annoyed me when emptying the dirt bin.
To each their own...
Our house is empty for about an hour from time to time despite the home office because we go for a walk or shopping, and then the robot vacuum runs… I come home, everything looks great, and when I empty the device, it gives me an extra sense of satisfaction to see how much dirt it picked up…
It runs on every floor at least once a week and cleans better than I do: I don’t have to bend down under the sofa or bed…

You really have first world problems. Hire someone to clean for you who isn’t in the fortunate position to build a house for xxx.xxx euros and needs every euro to buy something for their kids. My daughter has almost always lived in very large houses, next year even about 200m² (2,150 sq ft) more. But she always pays someone for household chores. There are many women who, after a divorce, need money or who never learned a profession to earn enough to pay rent and provide their children with a decent life. Honestly, I find this “mopping debate” just ridiculous... Oh man... 🙄 Unbelievable. I have nothing more to say about that.

I think you misunderstood me... I’m actually in favor of the robot vacuum especially when there are no kids around—because if there are toys everywhere, it can’t really navigate... I completely agree with that. Our robot vacuum moved out along with us when we relocated to the house. Instead, we got a cleaning lady (I love her), but of course, you need to be able to afford one first. They are quite expensive over the course of a year and definitely a luxury. Since then, I don’t have to rush around the house every evening trying to pick up toys.
Also, with pets that have longer hair, I find robot vacuums somewhat ineffective. I had to clear fur clumps from the brush every two days, which was very tedious.
Once the kids have moved out and the cats are no longer around, I might consider using a robot vacuum again. But by then, I probably won’t need a cleaning lady anymore and can handle cleaning on my own.
