Good morning,
I have put together a small list of extras and would appreciate any additional ideas you might have.
- In the ground floor living, dining, and kitchen areas, the electric switches should be controlled individually and connected in a “series circuit” to dim the lights.
- Controlled decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery.
- Preparation for photovoltaic system on the roof; missing on the garage roof.
- Two outdoor sockets on the ground floor.
- One outdoor connection for a light with motion sensor and switch on each side of the house.
- Three-phase power in the basement.
- Fireplace for a wood stove.
- Power supply in the garage.
- In the attic living, dining, and kitchen areas, leave the ceiling open up to the roof.
- Sliding doors with approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet) opening between the dining/living area and the hallway.
Thank you for your help.

For me, more things operate automatically, not just roller shutters... otherwise, as you already mentioned, they serve as:
Privacy protection
Burglary protection
ShadingThen you can skip the automation and just keep them closed all day – 24/7.
Maybe open them now and then to take a quick look outside.
Although this is somewhat off-topic here (but everything is a bit mixed up today and falls under the subject of electric roller shutters),
burglaries statistically happen more during the day, when you’re not at home – precisely in that one half hour. Shading is also only useful during the day, and in the evening you don’t want to be seen.
We also installed roller shutters on some ground-floor windows, but I rarely use them. I want to enjoy the view of the garden in the evening. Unwanted viewers come only from one side, unless the neighbor on the left or right turns out to be a peeper who constantly hangs at their window watching me. But I don’t think we’re that interesting.
The seating area is planned to be hidden from view, which is the advantage of building your own house.
If I’m in a bad mood, I lower them. Yes. But in a cozy home, you also like walking around and enjoying the different rooms from time to time.
By the way, it’s really annoying to look at a roller shutter when it’s still quite bright... in our neighborhood, everyone now keeps them open and uses pleated blinds that at least allow the view at head height.
I think, considering these aspects, one realizes that you can also live well without electric roller shutters.

No, of course not, like in that commercial
...you don’t need a car either, the carriage gets you there just fine...
I think you don’t understand the purpose of roller shutters...
but I had the shutters installed for these reasons:
- I want to have daylight inside the house and only have shading under certain conditions
- when it’s dark, I simply don’t want just anyone to be able to look inside
- there are no additional light sources in the garden, so once the sun goes down, nothing is visible anymore, meaning I don’t need the view
I’m also aware that burglaries can happen during the day... but do you know what passive burglary protection is?
Studies have shown that just a closed roller shutter and a light (keyword: presence simulation) deter many burglars... of course, it won’t stop a professional, but casual thieves usually look for an easier target.
Yes, most probably have strap winder mechanisms because people prefer to save money there... and since it’s absolutely annoying to manually raise and lower many roller shutters, people often just leave them up altogether...

Great argument.... but where???That is not an argument. I just don’t understand why you question the decision to install electric roller shutters so intensely. Honestly, with 17 windows in the house, it was not even up for discussion. And you missed one point: the additional cost was not significant enough to forgo them, and considering the number of windows, I think this discussion is moot.
