I want to build a prefabricated house on top of the basement of my current house. The house dates back to 1968 and has a thick concrete slab as the basement ceiling. How does this affect the new ground slab that will be placed on the basement in order to build a prefabricated house on it? Does the ceiling slab also need to be removed? Could it possibly even serve as part of the ground slab? What measurements/requirements should I be looking at? Many thanks in advance. I have little knowledge in this area and would appreciate some advice on what my next steps should be to properly plan the ground slab.
Best regards

How does this affect the new ground slab that needs to be placed on the basement to support the prefabricated house? Does the concrete slab also need to be removed? Could it possibly serve as part of the new ground slab? What measurements/conditions should I consider? What type of house is currently on the basement, and why does it need to be replaced? Is the size sufficient for your new house? Please share the plans of the existing house; photos would also be helpful. 1968 was quite a good year ;-)
How do you know that it has a “thick concrete slab”?

Unfortunately, I have little knowledge in this area You don’t need to. A fish doesn’t have to know how to ride a bike.

what my next steps should be to properly approach the planning of the foundation slab. Planning usually falls more under the responsibility of the structural engineer than yours – consult with one or an architect and work through these steps together.
