I hope this is the right forum.
We are currently considering installing an electric sliding gate for our property. Unfortunately, I don’t have a clear overview of the manufacturers available, and I’m not even sure what the proper term for it is.
We are looking for a gate that would be installed at the end of the property and slides sideways when you approach it by car. So it would also serve as the entrance to the property.
When I google the keywords from the title, I find a few brands that I’m not familiar with. Are there any “high-quality, well-known” manufacturers here, similar to how Hörmann is known for garage doors, for example? Hörmann does have something like this, but not really for private use unless you’re into industrial design.
I would appreciate it if anyone could name one or more manufacturers.
Thank you very much and best regards
Dany

That was what I feared, and it’s quite a substantial amount. The appearance and size are almost exactly what I had in mind...
Thank you very much for your response!!
Our driveway is about 5m (16 feet) wide. After accounting for posts, a possible wall to the neighbor, etc., I’m not sure if adding an extra pedestrian door would narrow the main gate too much, or if the clearance for vehicles would become too tight. I find it a bit difficult to visualize… Of course, a car is at most 2.55m (8 feet 4 inches) wide, but I still struggle to estimate it.

The reality for us is that we usually drive through while the gate is still opening and still have about one meter (3 feet) left in the driveway. Then we have to press the button twice to first stop it and then close it again.
If it is not expected that anything oversized will need to enter, a 3-meter-wide (10-foot) gate is more than enough. We had to go with 4.20 meters (14 feet) because we had to consider the turning radius for the fire department access (parts of the house are more than 50 meters (160 feet) away from the street).
On the other hand, it probably doesn’t make much difference cost-wise whether the gate panel is wider or if an identical fixed panel is installed. Each post requires a foundation, which adds extra cost.

Depending on the location of the house, deliveries through the gate may be desirable. If the gate is positioned in a way that requires maneuvering to drive through, this is important for determining the necessary width.
Thanks, hampshire! I already noted down "fire department access & related" while reading post #26 🙂. But still, thanks for the tip—it might actually be relevant in our case! Do you have a specific minimum width in mind? (In front of the planned 5m (16 feet) gate, we have a 5m (16 feet) driveway that belongs to us; before that, there is actually a 90° turn leading to the main road, which is only a little over 3m (10 feet) wide and has a slope.)
(Off topic: I’ve really been reading through some lengthy threads here for weeks! You have a very pleasant way about you; thanks for your many great answers in the forum. People like you make forums much more enjoyable!)

Experience with gate widths,
2.2m (7 ft 3 in) with Volkswagen Beetle, Trabant okay,
3m (10 ft) with car, van okay,
3.5m (11 ft 6 in) with motorhome tight,
4m (13 ft) and up, everything easy.
Berlin fire department does not pass through,
everything done with hoses from the street (rear buildings, courtyards)

The 10 minutes went by faster than I expected, and my explanation of the driveway situation was terrible 🙂.
I’ll try again.
In front of the planned 5m (16 feet) gate, we have another 5m (16 feet) of driveway that belongs to us. The actual street is basically shaped like a T, intersecting at a 90° angle. However, this street is only about 3m (10 feet) wide and has a slope opposite our driveway. There is very little space for maneuvering, but I think once you’re standing on our 5m (16 feet) in front of the gate, the hardest part is behind you 🙂.
