Hello,

I am interested in hearing your thoughts on commissioning custom decorative paintings.

During the building planning phase, I have already received recommendations and offers to have my portrait or favorite place painted as an oil painting. These works are very high quality and distinctive, but also expensive. However, I would also like to have my own images turned into paintings to hang on the walls, instead of IKEA posters. Therefore, I would like to hear your opinions:

What do you think about this? Does anyone have experience with it?

Best regards,

I have no experience with oil paintings, especially not portraits.
I don’t really find portraits appealing, especially not of oneself. We are no longer in the era of absolutism, and we’re certainly not feudal lords.

I have experience with acrylic paintings (1.5m x 1m (5 feet x 3 feet)). I own three of them. In my previous apartment, I had space for them, but not in my current one, and my wife doesn’t like them either. In the house, I’ll have to see if I can hang one up. The only place where I might be allowed to hang one is too small for it to have the proper effect.

So, if you have suitable spots for something like this, why not? But my recommendation would be landscape paintings or still lifes, not portraits.

I consider this to be advertising for the Chinese paint factories.

When I was a student, my only experience with “paintings” was posters of attractive women in minimal clothing on my walls. That’s the only experience I have with art...

Who is the provider, and what do they charge for such a large image?

Thanks for the feedback! So yes, size is definitely the most important factor, then the theme. It also has to match the furniture.
