1. We don’t like the gabion wall at all.
2. The same goes for the shrubs.
3. Behind the shrubs is my parents’ terrace, which is about 1.5m (5 feet) higher. So, we’re basically sitting on a display plate and want to create some privacy screening.

I’m honestly surprised that Thuja is being criticized so heavily here in the forum, yet it feels like every second person has planted bamboo. Where is the real benefit for our natural environment?

Why? You're right. Bamboo is as ecological as thuja and golf turf.
I hadn't even noticed that so much bamboo is being planted.

It is important that something is planted in the first place. Anything is better than a stone desert.
