ᐅ Choosing the Color of Windows and Roller Shutters

We have a small dilemma with our upcoming build regarding the color of the windows and roller shutters. We would like to have windows in Winchester color (both sides coated). Unfortunately, the window manufacturer does not offer matching roller shutter slats in that color. Therefore, we are considering choosing the roller shutters in anthracite (the same as the roof). However, we haven’t been able to find any pictures of this combination. Then there is the question of what color the guide rails and the trim should be, as these are available in Winchester.

To summarize, we are currently torn between:

- Winchester windows with roller shutter slats in anthracite. What color should the guide rails and trim be?
- Or quite plain windows in anthracite (coated on one side; white on the other) with roller shutters also in anthracite.

Does anyone perhaps have the same color combination and can offer some advice?

For this reason, we will probably end up choosing the boring anthracite (exterior) and white (interior) after all.
There are other colors besides anthracite. Yes, it is indeed boring. I have basalt with light gray shutters. The downside is that the windows also have extremely long lead times.

Of course there are other options, and we would like to choose different ones. But since almost all of them are custom colors, we only see them at installation. And there is a big risk that we won’t like them then.

First, there are samples available, and second, you can actually take the time to go outside and look at other houses. Especially in new housing developments, you’ll be surprised that there are more options than just anthracite to see in reality. 😉

So you’re assuming right away that we didn’t make the effort? Bold claim...
I’d estimate we’ve looked at around 300 to 500 newly built houses. Over 95% of German new builds have white or anthracite windows. The rest were Golden Oak, a few times green...
In Poland, it’s a bit different. There, well over 50% of the windows are either Golden Oak or Winchester-colored. We haven’t even seen any “experimental” colors in our area (Berlin-Brandenburg).

And yes, there is always a small sample about 15cm by 10cm (6 inches by 4 inches) in size. But that doesn’t really tell us how it will actually look when all the windows are covered with it. Windows in many colors are rarely found at window manufacturers because they are only produced on request as special colors.

The bottom line is either you take the gamble on an experiment you might end up not liking, or you play it safe with the “boring” standard combinations.

Whether it’s basalt or anthracite – they all look almost the same, don’t they? Does it really make that much of a difference? From a distance, I can’t really see a big difference.

Actually. Huge difference compared to anthracite 😎 The biggest difference is probably just the name.
