We have a small dilemma with our upcoming build regarding the color of the windows and roller shutters. We would like to have windows in Winchester color (both sides coated). Unfortunately, the window manufacturer does not offer matching roller shutter slats in that color. Therefore, we are considering choosing the roller shutters in anthracite (the same as the roof). However, we haven’t been able to find any pictures of this combination. Then there is the question of what color the guide rails and the trim should be, as these are available in Winchester.
To summarize, we are currently torn between:
- Winchester windows with roller shutter slats in anthracite. What color should the guide rails and trim be?
- Or quite plain windows in anthracite (coated on one side; white on the other) with roller shutters also in anthracite.
Does anyone perhaps have the same color combination and can offer some advice?

I have two tips:
1. Reduce the amount of plastic in the house as much as possible.
2. Minimize the variety of wood finishes and grain patterns as much as you can.
Both don’t really add value. We are talking about taste here. If I said, “Do you think a red VW Passat looks good,” the appropriate response wouldn’t be, “Better buy a Mercedes.” My question was whether anthracite and Winchester go together. We also have an anthracite-colored roof. The suggestion to use a lighter color than anthracite because of heat was good and accurate, thanks.

Now for something completely crazy. Wow, that really feels like a train leaving while the station stays put:

What if the exterior were anthracite and the interior Winchester? Has anyone used two different colors for windows without including white? I’ve since looked up what kind of “wood finish” that might be. Consider the “difference” ;-) between harmony and interference before you end up with a Leipzig mix of laminated PVC, pin-up girl leopard print ceramic, and on top of that possibly real wood on the stove. What you get inside the window behind the glass, contrasting the wood finish with anthracite exterior window film, will look like the effect of an “eyeliner stroke.” “Then I’m going to put a slit in my dress and think it’s wonderful,” sang Ingrid Steeger in the ’70s 🙂
You could, however, make the roller shutters light gray outside and anthracite inside (just kidding, but at least that would be thermally better outside and more comfortable inside than light slats if the view is unobstructed).

I’ve looked up what kind of “wood decor” this is supposed to be. Just think about the difference between harmony and interference before you put together a mixed bag of laminated PVC, hostess-leopard-print ceramic, and maybe even some real wood on the stove as the crowning touch. The contrast you’ll get inside, behind the glass, between the wood decor and the anthracite-colored exterior window film will have the vibe of a “winged eyeliner.” “Then I’ll cut a slit in my dress and love it,” sang Ingrid Steeger in the ’70s 🙂
You could, however, make the exterior roller shutters light gray and the interior ones anthracite (just kidding, but at least that would be thermally better on the outside and more pleasant on the inside than the light slats if the view is unobstructed). You’ll see for yourself. If we go ahead with it (still not sure how :-) ), you might even end up liking it—and maybe even the tofu bratwurst with earth flavor :p

I looked up what kind of “wood decor” that is supposed to be. Think about the difference ;-) between harmony and interference before you put together some kind of Leipzig-style mix of PVC foil, barmaid leopard-print ceramic, and maybe even real wood on top of the stove as the ultimate touch. What you get as a contrast behind the glass to the wood decor from an anthracite-colored exterior window film will have the vibe of an “eyeliner.” “Then I’ll make a slit in my dress and think it’s wonderful,” sang Ingrid Steeger in the ’70s 🙂
You could, however, make the shutters light gray on the outside and anthracite inside (just joking, but at least that would be thermally better outside and more pleasant inside than light-colored slats if the view onto them is unobstructed). That really made us think. This time, you’re right :p. We want a wood-look tile floor, the kitchen will have wooden elements, etc. So the windows would actually be too much. For that reason, we will probably decide on the boring anthracite (exterior) and white (interior) after all.
We’re visiting another construction site by the general contractor today and will chat with the homeowners a bit. Let’s see 🙂
