Good morning,
we have now received the first draft of the interior layout for our single-family home from our planner, but we are not quite satisfied, as some of our requests were unfortunately not taken into account. Accordingly, we are disappointed because this will be a "life project" for us, and we feel somewhat let down.
It is a terraced house with a total area of 110m² (1,184 sq ft), divided into 2 floors of 55m² (592 sq ft) each. Additionally, there is a basement and an attic, although the attic cannot be used as living space.
In the basement, we want the kitchen and dining area on the south side, the living room further back, which can be closed off with a sliding door to create a potential retreat space. There should also be a small storage room for food and miscellaneous items as well as a guest toilet.
On the upper floor, there is a master bedroom of about 16m² (172 sq ft) with direct access to a large bathroom, two children's bedrooms, and a separate small bathroom.
In my opinion, shifting the staircase might be a good idea, but since we are not experts, we have fully relied on our planner so far.
Another meeting with him will take place in the next few days, and perhaps you have suggestions and input that we could bring up concretely.
Thank you very much in advance!

It would be great if @ruebe87 could still respond. Later, I will fix the small mistakes that crept in (move the stairs, adjust the bedroom) and swap the kitchen and dining area. I meant well with the pantry and therefore placed the kitchen there. But the window situation is a stronger argument 🙂
Do you see anything else? Thank you very much for your design; I like it a lot. How would you organize the layout if the entrance had to be on the north side, or as an alternative project to your great suggestion?
Swapping the foyer and kitchen was also my first thought.
Is it possible to position the master bed toward the east somehow? I think the wardrobe blocks potential light that could be captured by a window (especially since the distance to the neighbor is a good 6m (20 feet)).
The pantry can be completely removed if that benefits the kitchen; it would be one of the first wishes to be crossed off the list.
We have more than enough space and storage in the basement. We will also set up a small office in the attic, which we can use for storage as well (shelves, etc.). We will definitely take many ideas from your design.
Attached is the latest draft from our architect, including furniture, which does not yet contain any changes since the meeting is still pending. In the next post, we will share some ideas we developed based on this.
Idea for the upper floor, only the colored lines are mine, drawn over the original plan.
In the bathroom, you could install a shower at the bottom. Right next to the shower exit, I would have a radiator installed to warm the towels 🙂
Another advantage is that the entrance to the left child's bedroom is better positioned, and the hallway becomes a bit smaller.

On the ground floor, we would remove the wall between the living room and the dining area. The wall on the left would be replaced by the wood stove, which is like a half-height wall. The fireplace will need to be relocated but should align well with the bathroom upstairs.
The cloakroom and the guest toilet would be swapped, and we would also add a shower in the toilet.
Looking forward to your feedback 😉

We will set up a small office in the attic. The staircase design probably won’t allow for a fixed fold-down attic ladder above the existing stairwell opening, as the sloped roof in the attic reduces the necessary headroom. Unless the roof is quite steep, which is generally not expected for a ridge house (roof pitch has already been queried multiple times).Similar topics
