Hello everyone,
We have installed Berker’s S1 series in our house. Now we have a toddler crawling around. I’ve used the usual outlet covers for safety, but I find them a bit inconvenient when, for example, you want to plug in the vacuum cleaner. They don’t hold the plug as securely, so it often slips out.
Berker also offers special childproof outlets. Does anyone have those? Do they completely replace the need for these outlet covers? I would like to replace a few outlets if the protection is sufficient. Thanks.

With the glued retrofit inserts, you have to twist the plug, which really annoyed me for outlets that were hard to reach, such as those under desks or elsewhere. I feel the same way. As I mentioned, there are mainly 2-3 outlets where the vacuum cleaner is plugged in. I want to and will replace those. Thank you very much for your feedback. Now I can confidently buy and install them.

The panel is included with the socket insert and is not available separately. The old insert must be removed, and the new insert rewired. The socket frame can still be reused.Thank you I will have a look around tomorrow then

Strahleman26 Aug 2021 13:52Warning: this built-in protection must explicitly no longer be called "childproof." It is a "touch protection," because there have already been accidents with fatal outcomes. According to the manufacturers, these safety mechanisms are not sufficient to protect sockets from children’s hands. I quote from the Gira website (unfortunately, I cannot provide a link to the source...):
"Last year, there was a tragic fatal accident in a daycare facility when a toddler came into contact with live parts of a VDE-certified socket with a shutter from one of our competitors while playing. The VDE Testing and Certification Institute used this incident as a reason to point out that the VDE certification of such a shutter socket is in no way sufficient to market it as 'childproof' or similar. At the same time, the institute has immediately prohibited the use of its VDE mark for shutter sockets in connection with terms like 'child protection' or 'childproof' as misleading. Market surveillance authorities also consider this type of product representation deceptive, as it falsely suggests that children can use these sockets unsupervised and in any way without any danger to themselves. As the incident in the daycare center shows, however, dangers to life and limb can never be completely ruled out in cases of incorrect use of a shutter socket."
Even if the adhesive things are ugly or annoying, I would never put my child’s safety in the background for the sake of my own convenience.
