ᐅ Recommendation for a KNX Smart Home Video Intercom System – Single-Family Home

Hello everyone,

I am currently considering the intercom system for our house planning.
Friends have recommended the Doorbird D2101V so far. (Price/performance is okay, although the camera quality is not outstanding.)
Do you have any good alternatives that you could suggest?

General information:
- The house will be wired with KNX
- The fingerprint scanner is already integrated directly into the door

Unfortunately, I can’t say much about KNX and fingerprint systems or their integration with an intercom system, but I recently decided on the Metzler VDM10.

I also considered the Doorbird, but found the Metzler more visually appealing and it is significantly more affordable while offering similarly good technical features like viewing angle, etc.

Yes, I initially bought the set with an indoor station. Additional units can be added later for 120–150 EUR.
So far, I don’t have much practical experience, but hopefully more soon.

I am also an iOS user and interested in hearing about experiences with the iPhone/iPad in this context.
At the moment, I can’t say much... in principle, everything should work.

Intercom systems and KNX typically only directly affect each other when you want to fully integrate the intercom into your visualization system. Is something like that planned? For example, Gira Home Server works best with Gira devices, Jung expert systems integrate well with Siedle, Basalte runs smoothly with Siedle and 2N, and free visualization tools list compatible intercom systems on their websites (make sure video functionality is supported!). If you also want to receive calls on the go through your visualization app, the setup becomes more complex.

Otherwise, you could use the intercom independently and capture the doorbell signal (for additional actions) and the door opener signal via their relay, e.g., through a binary input, to then open the door via KNX (never connect the door directly to the intercom station next to it!).

Recently, I installed several Doorbird 2101 units, which went quite smoothly, including integration with Control4 for these clients. Otherwise, I am a big fan of 2N.
