I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Yes, the plastic sheeting wasn’t my preferred solution either. Two weeks ago, I was still telling all the neighbors that we preferred a green look and wanted to try it without any covering at first. Then I stood in the brush for the first time with my cheap Makita trimmer, and after an hour I decided a) we definitely need a brush cutter with a blade, and b) I don’t want to do that a second time. It’s not a small slope either, it’s almost 35 meters (115 feet). And because of the huge alders, there were 50–100 shoots growing on the slope, some so deeply rooted that they couldn’t be removed. Plus a lot of thick thistles and stinging nettles. Too much.
In all the other beds, I have so far worked without plastic sheeting, just a thick layer of mulch, which actually works quite well. Some weeds come through, but most can be pulled out easily. That’s also partly because I was too lazy to prepare the soil properly. 😀 We decided on a rock garden. The spaces between the stones will be planted further. There is also a landscaping fabric underneath.
It’s still a work in progress; I’m currently wiring the lighting and power outlets, and some stones are still missing. I ended up with quite a muscle ache—there are still a few tons of stones in the driveway.
The beer table will be replaced by a nice table.

Phew, not really my thing. But I also think that "stone" and "garden" basically exclude each other.Of course, it’s a matter of personal taste. But why do they exclude each other?

You said it was too late for planting vegetables. Look up Marie from Wurzelwerk. She posted a video on Saturday about vegetables that should be sown or started indoors in July.
There’s also a book called Winter Vegetables by Heidi Lorey.
There are still quite a few things that can be planted until October. Very cool! Thanks!
I only saw your reply today.
Right now, I’ve completely lost interest in gardening. We mostly stay indoors regardless of the weather. As soon as the sun comes out and I open my patio door, I hear either country music or techno blasting from the neighbor’s property. Then I usually turn around and go back inside.
I’m not sure what else to do anymore. He argues it’s at a normal indoor volume. But I don’t know if you can really call it “indoor volume” when 45 dB still reach my side of the property behind the fence (even after he lowered it).
At the moment, the music is being drowned out by his teenager riding an unregistered motorcycle in circles around the residential area... great, what a Sunday.

I’m starting to not know what else to do anymore. You were the one with the hypersensitivity, right? This isn’t meant negatively, just to clarify the situation. By the way, I find background music outdoors and even in the garden completely unnecessary. Inside it’s fine to have it on, but on the terrace you can barely hear anything anyway.
I still don’t quite understand it: I once had a colleague who couldn’t filter out background noise. He would get annoyed even by the clicking of a spoon in yogurt and always moved away because of frogs, chirping birds, etc. (tenant).

I can’t quite put my finger on it either: I once had a colleague who couldn’t filter out background noises. He used to get annoyed by the clinking of a spoon in yogurt and always moved away because of frogs, chirping birds, etc. (renter). I’m not sure if it’s oversensitivity, it just annoys me and I find it hard to focus on anything else when there’s constant music playing in the garden.
We mostly stay indoors, but after several weeks it gets on our nerves because we would also like to sit in the garden sometimes. That’s not possible because every Sunday the radio plays non-stop.
And 45–50 dB on my property is definitely not the volume of normal conversation. Basically, normal conversation level would exclude hearing anything from a neighbor’s property inside my living room...
